Why Outside?

Why Outside?

There are two reasons why I decided to train outside exclusively for an entire year.  First, you feel amazing after any strenuous outdoor physical activity. Second, after training in gyms my whole life, I was bored.  As a kicker, I knew it would be nice to get my family involved in some of the workouts as well as my dog Duke. The real challenge is going to be the winter.  It gets super cold and we often have lots of snow on the ground out here in Western NY(not too far from Canadian border).  But thats part of the challenge and fun. Ultimately it will be rewarding on a physical and personal level to take on and meet the challenge.

Did you ever notice how great you feel after doing physical activity outside? Whether you go for a walk, run, cycling or raking leaves. You always seem to just feel good. I could probably guess that is because it is our natural habitat and we have spent most of our evolution outdoors, but that doesn't matter. Point is you feel great.  You also feel great after a solid workout. Combine the two and it is the Outdoor Fitness Project. The coolest thing is that no matter what level of fitness you are currently at, you can join the movement and improve your fitness.

Training outside challenges the traditional assumptions on what equipment is needed to get in shape (the challenge).  I can tell you the simple answer is none.  I will introduce a few tools to make some of the movements more challenging.  None of them are essential to produce great results though.

Last reason, I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather.  I hate being cold.  As a matter of fact it makes me want to stuff my face with comfort food and go into hibernation.  Not kidding, cold weather actually makes me hungrier.  I am going to have a tough time with the winter.  In the end this will make it even more rewarding to succeed.

So that's why I have decided to train outside for an entire year.  Hope you can join me on my journey and share in my experience.  So come on, get off the couch and let's do something outside.
