Fall Fury - Can You Have Your Cake and Eat it Too?

Fall Fury - Can You Have Your Cake and Eat it Too?

It was a chilly 34 degree fall morning. My New Balance 110’s were starting to soak through. The mud puddles covered in bright yellow and red leaves were hard to see.

The pull up bar was covered in ice, making exercises tougher on my forearms and hands than my back.

To get through the transition from fall to winter, from mild to brutal, you need a similar state of mind. A training program to match the intensity of the season.

Fall Fury is the answer.

Check out my latest training regimen.

Farmer Strength - Getting Strong Training Outdoors

Farmer Strength - Getting Strong Training Outdoors

My grandfather carried a 27 inch tube TV 50 yards without breaking a sweat or getting short of breath. The crazy thing, he was in his mid 80’s! He was strong and I was impressed.

My grandfather had farmer strength. Those genetic mutants who may not look like a bodybuilder or even workout, but possess serious functional strength. The good news is you can develop farmers strength.

The Art of Conditioning

The Art of Conditioning

We were kicked out as soon as we arrived. There was a field hockey game being played at the local high school where I had been doing my 400 meter sprint workouts. My friend and I were forced to hit a local hill for our sprint workout.

Conditioning is an art. Knowing how much, how long, what variety, and how intense to train is specific to the purpose I am trying to achieve.

In this post I discuss how I keep my conditioning in top form.

Eat What You Are - A New Way To Look At Clean Eating

Eat What You Are - A New Way To Look At Clean Eating

“You are what you eat” the portly high school health teacher told the class. Even then I found that statement odd and a little condescending.

Later that day I ran across the same health teacher eating a piece of pizza in the cafeteria. I asked him if he liked being a piece of pizza. He looked at me with a puzzled expression. I didn't waste the energy to explain my failed attempt at humor. I could have said practice what you preach, but I had my fill of cliches for the day.

Check out my latest post on a new way to look at clean eating.

Dog Days - Training with Man's Best Friend

Dog Days - Training with Man's Best Friend

I started sprinting full out across the field. Twenty yards in I yelled hike! That was the command for my dog Boomer to catch me. He broke his sit and launched into full pursuit mode. Knowing what was coming, I tried to push out an extra burst of speed. It was pointless. Five yards later Boomer’s mouth had a firm grip on my right pant leg.

In this post I provide some examples on how I train outdoors with my dog Duke.

Break the Rules

Break the Rules

There is a 53 year old man that has trained almost every day of his life. He rarely uses weights. His training consists of ultra high rep push-ups and sit ups. He also sprints regularly. To top it off, he is a vegetarian and eats one meal a day, dinner.

This individual didn't listen to the "experts." It is my time to stop listening as well.

8 Ways OutdoorFitness Will Help Me Survive Doomsday

8 Ways OutdoorFitness Will Help Me Survive Doomsday

Steve: Why are you training outside? Or even training?

Doug: It keeps me healthy and sane.

Steve: But it is so much effort and not necessary in this day and age.

Doug: I disagree, but if all goes to hell, at least I have my fitness.

Steve: Huh, like a doomsday apocalypse?

Doug: Or the collapse of the dollar. Something like that.

That conversation led me to this post. How OutdoorFitnessProject will help me survive the Doomsday Apocalypse… while keeping my sanity and improving my health. Or at least one of the two.
